    Description

For sale is a vintage cabinet photo of the Warrick County Courthouse in Boonville, Indiana. The photo's significance can be found via information pasted onto the back. It says: "Warrick County Court Hose, where William Lee's fate is Hanging in the Balance. X Indicates room in which coroner is holding investigation. Lee's trial will also be held there. ... MONTE KATTERJOHN, Boonville, Ind." This likely dates the photo to late 1911. In December of that year, the 21-year-old Lee went went on trial for the triple-murder of his father, Richard; mother, Emilie, and younger brother, Clarence, at their farm house near Boonville. The triple murder grabbed headlines throughout the Midwest. The trial ultimately was moved to Evansville, Indiana, Lee was found guilty and he died in his cell in September 1914. Monte Katterjohn's link to this photo is significant, too. Born in Boonville in 1891, Katterjohn became a screenwriter. He wrote the screenplays for 68 films between 1912 and 1931. He died in Evansville in 1949. This photo measures 3 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches. The backing is 6 by 7 inches. It is in very good condition, with a missing corner. This item would be a wonderful addition to any collection of Boonville memorabilia. See my listings for other items.
