The lid comes off and can hold small amount of jewelry or powder. Made of metal. Looks like aluminum. Has a couple colonial scene. Some dings or nicks due to use and age. See pictures.

    Measures approx.
    5-1/4" wide x 4" tall.
    Vintage I think it's from the 1920's.
    Music box does not play music.
    It has a patent number no date.
    Can't make out all the numbers 2,00_ _04.
    The winding key turns and I hear clicks
    when I turn it. Sounds or feels like its not
    turning anything just clicks like it might be
    stripped. I don't hear any music playing
    when I take off the lid. Even with it not
    playing it's a wonderful vintage display.
    For the money it's a very nice item.
    The lid comes off and can hold small amount
    of jewelry or powder. Made of metal. Looks
    like aluminum. Has a couple colonial scene.
    Has few nick and dings due to age and use.
