    Description

Geraldine Ulmar (1862-1932): She was an American actress and soprano singer, famous for her Gilbert & Sullivan roles. She made her amateur debut at the age of 11 as “The Child Soprano” and her professional debut at the age of 17.
1881-1887: She made 16 New York stage appearances.
She starred as Yum-Yum in The Mikado in New York, London, and Berlin. “Geraldine Ulmar, breathing an exotic beauty, was the ideal Yum-Yum, sentimental or silly, artful or ingenuous, as the part required. Small wonder that so attractive and successful an actress created a flutter [among male admirers!]”. She returned to London in 1887 at age 25 and lived there until her death at the age of 70. This is the only example of this photo found.
Photographer: [Joseph w.] Gehrig, 337 West Madison Street, Chicago. Note the typographical error in the spelling of her name: Geraldne.
    Reverse: Photographer information.
CONDITION: Superb! There is light staining along the right edge of the reverse, but the front is absolutely flawless! Exhibits almost none of the warping typical of cabinet cards.
