    Description

This is a cabinet card photo of a man with a long beard identified on the back as, “Robert Witzel.” The photo was taken by Catterlin in Salem, Oregon, ca. 1891-93. The photo is in good condition with no significant mars. Good contrast.
According to information found on the Internet, the two-story farmhouse that Robert Witzel built around 1875 is still standing at 6576 Joseph St. S.E. in Salem. It is designated as an historic residence. The property where the house is located was originally part of a larger donation land claim settled in 1853 and was ultimately acquired by Robert's father Benjamin Witzel in 1871. The house is rectangular with a double piazza extending across the front.
