Cabinet card photograph (just over 4 ¼” by 6”) of Edward L. Prickett of Hazardville, Connecticut, by Herman Schervee of Worcester, Massachusetts, circa 1900s. The portrait view, identified on the reverse as E.L. Prickett, Hazardville, Conn., Sec. Treas. R.I. Red Club of America, shows a mustached young man posing for his likeness in a photographic studio, turned half profile. This is Edward L. Prickett (1869-1956) who was the superintendent of the Hazard Powder Works, like his father before him. His grandfather, William Prickett, came from England and was a foreman at the powder works until killed in an explosion in 1844. Edward L. Prickett was also a poultry enthusiast and expert breeder of the Rhode Island Red chicken. His office at the Hazard Powder Works was decorated with the ribbons and trophies he won with his fowls. He was prominent in the Rhode Island Red Club of America, serving many years in different capacities, and was the Secretary Treasurer in 1905 (about the date of this photograph). The cabinet card is in good condition with light wear and soiling. Note the light rubbing and bumping at the corners of the card. The faint pencil on the reverse are my notes (easily erased). The photograph exhibits good or better tonal range and shows good or better detail. A nice Hazardville CT related image!
