Circa 1880 cabinet card photo of Jumbo the Elephant, "The largest Elephant ever seen by mortal man, wild or in captivity", property of Messrs. Barnum, Bailey & Hutchinso, cost ,000. The photo is shown with trainer Matthew Scott. The photo is on cardstock and is an "Artotype" photo by E. Bierstadt of New York. Measurements are approximately 4.25" x 6.5".
Small repaired chip to blank lower corner, otherwise very good condition with minor expected age-related wear. The original chipped piece has been neatly glued back in place using an archival type adhesive. See photos to better view condition.
