    Description

    THIS IS A HEAVY SPECIMEN OF
    IRON ORE CONSISTING OF MASSIVE HEMATITE-LIMONITE WITH NO MATRIX.
    IT IS FROM THE
    BRISTOL SILVER MINE, BRISTOL-JACKRABBIT DISTRICT, LINCOLN CO., NEVADA
    .  THE SPECIMEN IS
    APPROXIMATELY 9 X 8 X 4.5 cm
    .  AND IT
    WEIGHS 413.6 gm.
    THE SPECIMEN IS FROM THE GOSSAN CAP ON TOP OF THE BRISTOL REPLACEMENT VEIN SYSTEM.  THE HEMATITE WAS RECOVERED AND TAKEN TO THE SMELTER AND USED AS FLUX IN THE SMELTING OF THE COPPER-SILVER-LEAD ORES.  THE MINE PRODUCED COPPER, LEAD AND SILVER DURING THE LAST HALF OF THE 19TH AND FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY.  SEE PICTURES.
