    Offered is an original 1931 cast iron U.S. outdoor street mailbox. It is cast on both sides of the box; “Carlisle Foundry Co. Carlisle Pa” & “U.S. Mail”. The front has cast “Letters” & “Pull Down” on the top letter slot door. The bottom has the date cast “1931”. There is a drop down door on the bottom half of the front for the mailperson to collect the letters. The key has been removed but there is no damage to the mounting hole. The back has a mounting slot for the box to be mounted to a pole. This box looks to be complete with no obvious damage or missing parts. (except the removed lock) This original mailbox shows several layers of paint and wear. The top paint layer is a thick blue color with wrinkles, wear, and chips. Study the photos for an idea as to condition. There is several spots where an older red paint is visible. A worthy original antique piece worthy of restoring if desired. The box weights 55 pound without packaging or insurance.
