Emeralds have long been used for jewelry and lapidary practices. Their uses have been traced back to ancient Egyptian culture, 4500 years ago. Currently, Columbia is the world's leading producer of the gemstone.  Due to their rarity, they are highly sought after.  This has caused synthetic versions of the stones to be produced and used in replacement of the real stones.  Emeralds are a deep green color in their purest form.  Emerald is a member of the beryl stone family along with aquamarine and morganite. It is the birthstone for the month of May.
This lot of tumbled emerald comes in a velvet bag. These bags are very handy with keeping your stones together for storage or transport. The velvet gives it an extra layer of protection from damage.
